NextStep MS Office TrainingNextStep 39 Applications Now AvailableNextStep 39 will run October 29, 2008 through December 10, 2008. The application deadline is Friday, October 17, 2008, 5:00 p.m. You can get more information and a copy of the application here.
What is NextStep?NextStep is a six-week intensive MS Office 2000 computer-training program for HIV positive participants. The program includes MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet software training, as well as an introduction to MS PowerPoint and Access. Classroom instruction will be held 3 days per week from 12:30 PM to 5 PM (for exact schedule refer to the specific session application). In addition, up to 2 hours of lab time will be assigned each week for out-of-class assignments. What are the benefits?Participants will gain confidence, motivation, and technical know-how. Participants will learn how to apply concepts, rather than features, and to complete office tasks efficiently. In addition, participants will learn to apply these skills for personal and professional development. Participants will learn in a supportive environment. What are the eligibility requirements?
How will participants be selected? As with many training programs, we receive applications from more eligible people than we have space to accommodate. Please understand that fulfilling all of the eligibility requirements and submitting an application will not guarantee a space in the program. To facilitate a fair process, each applicant will be carefully screened to ensure eligibility (demonstrate all requirements). All candidates who meet the eligibility requirements will be invited to participate in a personal interview. The interview will provide for an opportunity for candidates to explain their interest in the program and to determine the appropriateness of the program for their employment goals. Twelve applicants will be offered participation and three alternates will be selected. Should an applicant decline or withdraw from the program, an alternate will be offered a seat in the class. A new application must be submitted for each session of NextStep. Please note that NextStep will give priority to candidates who are currently seeking PT or FT employment, or who will be enrolling in advanced employment readiness training. While our desire is to make our computer training available to as many people as possible, please understand that we have very limited resources and we not be able to accommodate all those who seek participation in NextStep. However, every effort will be made to provide other available resources to candidates who are not chosen. |
