Working While DisabledPRC holds a monthly workshop, which addresses how earnings may affect disability income and health insurance benefits. The workshop provides an overview of public and private benefits, and specifically addresses how earnings will affect each individual public disability income benefit (SSDI, SSI, and SDI), and each form of health insurance (Medi-Cal, MediCare, ADAP). Participants will learn to utilize the full scope of SSA's "Work Incentives," including understanding the implications of any past work. We will explore how to avoid generating an overpayment and ways to respond to overpayments already acquired, and what to expect in the event of a continuing disability review. The participants will have an opportunity to explore ways to maximize current benefits while attempting or planning a return to work, and how and when to report your earnings (to SSA, housing subsidy providers, VA, etc.). Finally, we will discuss strategies around increasing access to private benefits from potential new employers. For specific times, please see the Employment Services Calendar for "Thinking About Working: What Happens To Benefits." These workshops are open to everyone. |
