Accessing Disability Income and Health Insurance BenefitsPRC's benefits team (attorneys, advocates and legal assistants) provides direct, in-house legal representation for San Francisco residents living with HIV/AIDS or mental health issues (referred by specific Department of Public Health sites) regarding Social Security disability applications and appeals as well as continuing disability reviews. We work with people whose benefits have been terminated due to an outstanding warrant to reinstate SSI and SSDI benefits. We also enroll clients in the CARE/HIPP health insurance premium payment program. Our services are provided free of charge within a client-centered and harm reduction model. We provide consultations to San Francisco residents regarding overpayments, medical leaves, State Disability Insurance, Medi-Cal, Medi-Cal/HIPP, ADAP, Medicare, and general questions around public and private income and health insurance benefits, including changes in laws and regulations that may affect eligibility and access to these benefits. We address return to work issues and questions in our monthly working while disabled workshops. We are currently language proficient in Spanish, Cantonese, Pu Tong Hua/Mandarin and English.
